Mark Bruner
PhD, CMPC
Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
I am excited to join the Bay Psychology team, fueled by a deep commitment to supporting individuals in managing stress and navigating life’s transitions. My passion for mental health began through my research and work with athletes, where I witnessed the prevalence of anxiety and depression. Under the supervision of Dr. Sachiko Nagasawa, clinical psychologist, I look forward to helping clients address mental health challenges, enhance well-being, and build resilience.
Professionally, I hold the position of Canada Research Chair in Youth Development through Sport and Physical Activity and serve as a Professor in the School of Physical and Health Education at Nipissing University. I earned my Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan and completed postdoctoral training at Queen’s University. My research focuses on group dynamics and psychosocial development in youth sport and physical activity settings, resulting in over 90 published academic journal articles, 10 book chapters, and co-editing The Power of Groups in Youth Sport.
As a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC), I bring over 20 years of experience as a mental performance coach and consultant, having worked with elite youth and university sports teams as well as the Canadian Armed Forces.
Beyond my professional endeavours, I enjoy playing ice hockey, trail running, gardening, and coaching my two daughters in competitive soccer.
