After over 25 years of service in community children’s mental health, I am excited to extend the reach of my practice. It is a privilege to join with children, youth, and their caregivers with a view to enhanced functioning. I believe everyone is doing the best they can and strive to meet clients where they are at and build from there. As a mom of two, I often say with some levity that somehow, we got them to young adulthood. But not without bumps. And sometimes, the bumps were big.
My joy comes from sharing the knowledge that we all have a superpower, the superpower to enlist our innate skills to feel better. My job is to help you learn how to unleash your superpower and nurture it. My approach remains eclectic and includes aspects of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative. Areas of expertise include self-regulation, anxiety and mood management, trauma assessment and treatment, and attachment. No one lives in a vacuum. Therefore, I look forward to involving caregivers in all aspects of treatment. Kids do better faster when their adults engage alongside them.
As a first generation Canadian who identifies with a white European ancestry, I grew up with an appreciation of all the opportunities available to me. Only recently through trainings have I become aware of this country’s colonization history and the injustices committed against Indigenous peoples. To this end, I strive to remain mindful of my privilege and try to openly listen and stay aware of my own biases.
I am a lifelong learner who marvels at the strength of each client who risks their own vulnerability with a view to growth. Spending time in nature remains a priority. I have great interest in expanding my knowledge about the restorative benefits of mindfulness, the outdoors and physical activity.
Everyone needs purpose. Everyone deserves opportunity.
